NewYorkMetro.com’s 101 Best Cheap Eats

NewYorkMetro.com's 101 Best Cheap EatsMy friend sent me a link to NewYorkMetro.com’s 101 Best Cheap Eats. I know this list is Manhattan-centric but it does give u some nice places to get some good foods at a reasonable price. Some of my favorite places are on this list.

    Here’s my pick:

  • For Thai food, Sripraphai is great, but I hate the long wait times there. It used to be much better before it got yupified but its still damn good.
  • For pizza, its Di Fara Pizza hands down. The only downside to Di Fara is the long, long wait times. It’s worth it though.
  • Totonno’s is a nice alternative pizzaria, especially if you dont’ want the long wait times at Di Faras.
  • Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is great for ribs. I love the ribs there. But then again, I love ribs in general. The New York location is almost as good as the Syracuse one.
  • ’ino and ’inoteca are great for some panini’s. My girlfriend and I love the food there.
  • If I’m feeling hungry for something Chinese, I love Grand Sichuan St. Marks. My coworker and I go there quite a bit for some spicy beef.
  • If i’m broke, which is almost all the time, I love Grey’s Papaya for some cheap but delicious hot dogs. You can’t beat their special- 2.95 for 2 hot dogs and a fruit drink.

Connections Zen Theme

Friday, July 28th, 2006

As you can see, I’ve changed the style of the site a bit. I modified the original WordPress Connections theme by Patricia Müller to fit my needs. There are lots of small little changes. However, one of the most noticable is the top banner. I’ve reduced the height of the top banner so that it takes up less space, allowing you to see more of the page without scrolling.

I also made companion theme for ZenPhoto as well. One of my friends got annoying with scrolling to look at pictures (you lazy bum) so i tried to minimize scrolling as much as possible. If your resolution i set to 1024×768, you sould be able to see most of the picures without scrolling. I’m trying to incorporate a slideshow and a navigation system similar to the one flickr uses. However, since I’m busy with work, I won’t have too much time to work on this. I’ll tyr to get it up ASAP, but it might be some time.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

PlayStation3 Troubles

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

I’ve been reading some news on the next gen consoles, and it looks like Sony is not doing so well in the public’s eye. This shouldn’t surprise anyone.  I mean, they announced a price of 600 smackers for their system.  One thing that did surprise me is just how much support Nintendo has. Here is an excerpt from an article in Playfuls.com:

For example, a post-E3 poll organized by Famitsu, the ultimate gaming magazine in Japan revealed something no one would suspect: Nintendo Wii tops Sony Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 in customers’ preferences. The big question was, “What gaming hardware are you looking forward to the most?” The Nintendo Wii did three times better than its closest competition. Wii: 68.8%, PS3: 21%, Xbox 360: 7.2%, and NDS: 3%.

As for the price of the future PS3, 88.4% said the price is too high, 10.9% said the price is appropriate and only 0.7% said the console is inexpensive. And just think that this is a poll from one of the world’s richest countries and the traditional dominant market for Sony Playstation… Not to mention that the popular PlayStation Portable didn’t even managed to appear in the top.

With Sony concentrating on how great their hardware is, they have forgotten that games are about having fun. When I get a gaming system, I want to play good games on it.  I don’t need it to shoot laser beems out of it or anything like that. I would love to play some of the exclusive Sony games like Metal Gear Sold 4 and Final Fantasy XIII, but I don’t want to pay $600 to do so. Why spend all that money when I can have fun with the Wii for a fraction of the PS3’s price.

EA Announces Six New Wii Titles

Friday, July 14th, 2006

I’m not a huge gaming fan, but I do like to play a few games here and there. I have the PlayStation 2, and I’m a Final Fantasy fanatic. Maybe not to the same extent as my friend, who gets a stiffee thinking about Spiderman, but I do like it enough to be crazy about it.

Originally, I wanted to get the PS3 for Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII. Then I heard how much the PS3 cost, I figured I wouldn’t buy a next gen console. Xbox 360 doesn’t have any games I want to play, and the PS3’s too expensive. I didn’t even think about Nintendo.

Then I saw some clips from E3 about the Nintendo Wii, and that got me a excited, like a fanboy meeting his “hero.” It seemed like a lot of fun. Swinging the controller to play tenis, or holding both parts of the controller like a bow and arrow. When they announced the price at $250, I wanted one. It looks fun and its’ cheap. The problem was third party support. I didnt’ just want to play Mario on the new system. Now, even this doesn’t seem like a big problem. Companies seem to like the controller. The latest to join the Nintendo camp? EA.
