Black Eyed Peas Concert

Friday, August 25th, 2006

As I mentioned in my previous post, some friends and I went to a Black Eyed Peas concert at the Nikon Jones Beach Theater. The Pussycat Dolls were supposed to start for them and we were all looking forward to this. They are HOT!!! Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned.

First, we tried to bring cameras in there, but we couldn’t because they were being anal about the whole thing. We should have cleverly hidden it somehow, like up PaperThin’s ass, but we didn’t so no pics inside the concert, except for camera phone pics. What ticks me off is that so many people had cameras and were snapping away like crazy. Oh well, you win some you loose some.

Second disappointment, and this is the biggie, was the Pussycat Dolls NOT performing because they were “sick.” Instead, they got replaced by Danity Kane, the winners of one of MTV’s Making the Band shows. I never even heard of this group. We were all looking forward to seeing the Pussycat Girls so this totally sucked. If the Danity Kane girls were hot, it might not have been as bad. Unfortunatly, not only did their perfomance suck, but the girls were ugly and fat. We got the thunder thigh girls opening the concert. What a big let down.

Once Black Eyed Peas started, we started having a great time. They were great, and did a fantastic job getting everyone pumped up. They had a great selection of songs, and they had people waving and dancing along. At one point they had everyone light up their cell phones and wave it in the air. At that point, Chickenbutt said “They used to give out light sticks. Now it’s come to this. Where everyone frigging has a cell phone.” He’s right. I guess they are trying to save money. Too bad the savings aren’t passed to us. Anyhow, it was a nice sight to see all these lights swaying with the song.

Overall, we had a great time. Good seats, good music, good weather. I’m a happy camper. Too bad we got the thunder thigh girls instead of the Pussycat Girls. You can’t win them all, I guess.

Note: The names in this posts have been changed due to people’s request.

Famous Dave’s Barbeque

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Famous Dave's BarbequeI went to Long Island today to go to the Black Eyed Peas concert with some friends. On the way, we decided to check out Famous Dave’s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que. Those of you who knows me knows that I’m a pig. Even if you don’t know me, you should have figured that out from the number of posts about food. Well oink oink then. I thoroughly enjoyed my food there.

We started off with some BBQ chicken wings since my friend, Chickenbutt is a wings fanatic. They were fantastic. I never tasted such sweet and delicious wings. They might have tasted good because I didn’t eat breakfast or lunch. Chickenbutt would say it’s because I’m a pig so if that’s the case so be it. Oink oink it is. Being the pig that I am, I ordered their award winning St. Louis-Style XXL Ribs, “The Big Slab.” Of course, I made it a platter with 2 sides, corn on the cob, some corn bread and fries. J.Ho ordered the same, while PaperThin only ordered half a rack. Chickenbutt and his cousin shared a BBQ feast for 2. We all enjoyed our food. At the end of the meal, I had 4 ribs left, but I finish everything else. J.Ho tried beating me by trying to eat more, but I think he learned his lesson. Don’t mess with a pig like me. Anyhow, after eating and stuffing ourselves, we headed off for our concert, which I’ll post about next.

Note: The names in this post have been changed because of a certain anal friend who is afraid he is going to get stalked.

Edit: I changed the logo to a scanned image from their menu I picked up. I also added the scanned picture that was on the front of the menu.

Chao Thai

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Life’s a pain, as the saying goes. My stomach’s been acting up lately, and I’ve been feeling a bit queasy every time I eat. Whenever that happens to me, some spicy food helps relieve it. I know that seems contradictory, but it just does for me.

After I got home from work, we tried to figure out what to eat for dinner. It was already late so cooking was out of the question. We finally decided to eat Thai food. I figured Thai food is pretty spicy so it should help my stomach. We went to small Thai restaurant called Chao Thai, and boy, was I surprised. It was actually really spicy. I’m not talking American spicy, where you get a hint of spiciness. I’m talking so damn spicy i’m going to shoot fire out of my ass spicy.

We all ordered the Pad Kee Mao Noodles (aka Drunken Noodles or Spicy Noodles) and asked them to make it extremely spicy. Now, in most Thai restaurants I’ve been to, extremely spicy means it’s still very mild. Why? Because American people cannot take anything spicy. When our noodles came out, they were pretty tasty. It was a little too sweet but not too bad. Definitely not the same level as Sripraphai, but its still pretty good. However, what surprised me was that unlike other Thai places, the noodles were really spicy. I barely had to add additional spices to it. Most of my friends know that when I eat Thai food, I ask for additional spices and sprinkle buckets of it onto my plate. Not here. I didn’t have to sprinkle much. If I can admit that it was spicy, then it’s spicy.

Now my stomach’s feeling much better. The only problem is when I take a dump later, I’m going to feel it on the way out. Oh well, that’s the price you pay for enjoying spicy foods.

If you still want to check out this restaurant, the address is below.

Minor Changes

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

I’ve made some small changes to the site here and there.  Most people won’t notice, but I’ll list it here, at least for my own records.

  • borders to my images similar to the borders that my photo album thumbnails had.
  • a search box so know you to search for posts. (I have quite a bit of posts now so this shoudl come in handy.)
  • BUNNY - Look at the bottom of the right sidebar section.

I found the bunny world domination thing a while ago, and I’ve been using it as my signature in my emails.  I figured it might be nice to have it on my website as well so there it is.

DamnKorean Returns

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

Ok. After much thought and discussion (OK. Not really, but it sounds better that way), I decided to bring back the site name DamnKorean. It’s easier to remember than www.hwanch.com. I’m also trying to think about what else to blog about in general. I don’t want to be the same old blog as everyone else. As people have told me, my site is boring. So I need to spice it up. Any thoughts, anyone?

MenKui-Tei

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Menkui-teiI had dinner with my girlfriend at MenKui-Tei, a Japanese ramen noodles resturant in the East Village. I ordered the curry ramen and I added a friend rice dish to my noodles for $3.00. The noodles were good and the rice was good. My girlfriend wasn’t too hungry so she had beef’s tongue appetizer and most of my small fried rice dish. Tongue is not exactly something I would eat, but if she like it, more power to her.

I think this is a chain of the original Men Kui Tei located on 56th St and 6th Ave. However, this new location seems to have more choices on their menus, while the original location is mainly noodles.

If your in the mood for some good noodles and you need to watch your wallet, check out this resturant.

What’s a Planet?

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

It finally looks like they will define what a planet is. The International Astronomical Union members will vote on Aug. 24 to accept or reject the following definition of a planet:

A planet is a celestial body that (a) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (b) is in orbit around a star, and is neither a star nor a satellite of a planet.

If it gets approved, we’ll have 12 planets in our solar system with 12 more that need more review before being considered a planet. I think we should leave the term “planets” just for the 8 planets we all agree on.
